Jo-Ann Suchard

I am an Associate Professor in Banking and Finance at UNSW Business School. My area of specialty is in entrepreneurial finance and I have conducted pioneering research on the Australian and Chinese venture capital and private equity markets. I have won both Australia Research Council Linkage and Discovery grants for research in this area. I have also undertaken funded research in conjunction with government and industry partners including Australian Investment Council (formerly the Australian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association),Queensland Investment corporation and the Innovation Division, Department of Industry (Canberra) and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (NSW). My current research focuses on diversity (including gender) and access to capital.
I have been a director on the board of the Asian Finance Association since 2010. I developed an international annual online colloquium on venture capital and private equity in the Asia Pacific region, which I run in conjunction with the Asian Finance Association. This colloquium attracts global academic and industry participants.
My additional research interests include capital raising in debt and equity markets, corporate governance and Chinese financial markets. I have published widely in international journals, am an editorial board member of the Australian Journal of Management and present regularly at Australian and international conferences. I have previously held visiting positions at University of British Columbia, Canada and Singapore Management University.
